Big Baits part 9 (2)
Suddenly I realized I had a very large fish on the line, what it was I did not know, it made a medium distance powerful run of about 50 to 75 feet, what was it, how big was it, could I hold it on the light bass rod and12 lb. test line I was using? As I fought the fish with light but steady pressure, I realized I had a iron jig with a single barbless hook, I couldn'tpump the fish as I usually did because the heavy iron lure would just fall out of the fish's mouth.
After what seemed like hours, but what was really around 10 minutes, the large fish got closer to the surface and made another prolonged run for the bottom, I wasn't worried about the bottom, the water was really deep here, I didn't know what kind of fish I had, or whether it had sharp teeth, maybe it was a shark and had sandpaper skin that could wear right through the line, I was mostly curious about what I had on the end of my line. I have caught many large fish in my life, including a great white shark that weighed close to 3000 lbs and was 18 to 20 feet long ( it was released ).
This was not a question of, gosh, this is the fish of a lifetime, but just I was very curious about what this was on the end of my line, especially since it was from a zone where I very seldom had caught anything in the past, at least at the depth I had hooked this one. I am always on the lookout for new places and new techniques in the area I fish.

LIFE LESSON # 6: You can never know too much or have too much information on the areas you fish.
